Paranoids are a four-piece rock band from San Francisco Their music, which has evolved dramatically since the release of their first EP, "The Party's Over" (Pandacide, 2004), straddles s few odd fences. It has variously been described as "goth-garage," "glam-garage," "White Stripes meets Bauhaus," and "a dance-inspiring blend of mod, post-punk, and pure vintage talent—a David Lynch interpretatoin of a Bobby Darin concert."
Paranoids feed you your dirty-guitar rock and serve it up with a creepy, macabre twist. They take cues from the post-punks, dragging out the odd dance beat or warped, menacing synth. They evoke the dramatic flourishes of bygone glitter-glam days, giving a not-so-subtle wink at Bowie and Roxie Music. The eclectic mix is tied together through singer Damon's uniquely nasal, theatrical rants, which draw comparisons to Peter Murphy, Jello Biafra, and the Fall.
Paranoids assembled in 2004, from the ruins of a few Bay Area bands—drummer Eliot and vocalist Damon having defected from the Librarians, a frantic punk/pop act who made some waves in the Bay Area with their antic-heavy stage show. The addition of guitarist/keyboardist Lennon and bassist J. Marquez set the stage for the recording of their second EP, "Obsessions, Delusions, And Headtrips Vol. 1," released in October 2005. Paranoids are embarking on a series of West Coast tour dates in support of it.
